Want to throw an awesome backyard party?  If it’s someone’s birthday, or any other type of celebration for that matter, there is no better choice than to have a party under the bright sky, and if you wish to make that experience exciting and memorable for all the guests invited, here is a short to-do list of suggestions and ideas.

Warning: This could get wild!

Décor and Design

The first thing that you could do is to choose a theme. That might be just a choice of the dominant color of the decorations, or you could go all out and make a 1980’s dance party with bold colors, tacky jewelry and, of course, little tiny disco balls all around! You can make a fiesta, a masquerade or even a toga party. Of course, the important thing is to know your crowd. And if you are not sure what would satisfy everyone, the answer is simple: versatile! If the space allows it, throw an elegant party indoors, for the quieter type of guests, and make it loud in the backyard.

As far as décor goes, remember that lights are crucial. Here is an awesome idea on how to make glowing balloons that will certainly be the light of the party. Literally. One thing that you can’t go wrong with is to put as many blankets that you have, or can find from friends, on a stool or a table, and put a sign in front of it: “Make Yourself Comfy.” The majority of guests won’t even want any stools in that case. And if you have some old mirrors, hang them on the fence. Sounds silly, but looks amazing.

Food and Drinks

If your party is somewhat formal, then please keep everything in tune. Don’t have plates of different colors, match the napkins with the scenery, and never ever try out a new recipe. You can say it’s new to your guests, but don’t cook anything that you are positively not sure about how is it going to look like or taste like. Hiring a catering service is always a good choice, but the best choice is to have a buffet-style table, divided by sections, with some amazing appetizers and desserts. Of course, there should be some bright lighting over the table.

We won’t go thru the beverages choice in details, there is no point to it, and you probably already know what you should have and what your guests would want. But we do have a suggestion! Here is a great list of simple, three ingredient cocktails that you can make yourself, and they will look amazing when served and are tasty to drink.

Entertainment and Music

Now if you want to really make a memorable experience for everybody, and provide something that your guests will talk about for years to come, you should definitely get a mechanical bull and place it in your backyard.  Literally no one will resist trying that thing on for size, and don’t even announce it, make it a surprise. If you have a pool, do keep it available and clean, and you can try having a karaoke machine but it’s a bit outdated don’t you think?

As far as music goes, hire a DJ, you can’t go wrong with that choice. Doesn’t have to be a famous one, doesn’t have to be a really expensive one, just look online or ask your friends. There is a dime a dozen of actually very talented DJ’s nowadays, and you will have no problem finding one. You can make your own playlist, but you shouldn’t be bothered with changing the tunes. The band is good too, but a DJ is much better.
